There Is No Beginning, There Is No End

Ruth Borgenicht | Sam Chung

Artist Talk: November 3rd, 5:30pm

NOV 2 - DEC 2, 2017
Opening Reception:
Thursday, November 2, 6 - 8pm

Ruth Borgenicht investigates ideas of permanence and defensive concealment utilizing the inherently fragile medium of clay. Creating a fabric of movable interlocking rings, she constructs various intricate forms that take shape through multiple firings.
Borgenicht received her undergraduate degree in math at Rutgers University, although she eventually found that her love of math alone could not stifle her creative desires. Her ceramic knowledge since has been guided by other artists, books, and various residencies throughout the U.S.

In an effort to challenge perceptions of what is familiar versus what is new, Sam Chung approaches the vessel with as much intention as intuition. By examining relationships within art, traditional craft, design and architecture, Chung allows his work to merge historical/contemporary and cultural influences, most recently, in reference to Korean art and design.
Chung received his BA from St. Olaf Collage and his MFA from Arizona State University, where he now works as an Associate Professor for the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts. Chung has completed a number of national and international fellowships and residencies. His work has been exhibited and collected worldwide.
