James Brown

SEPT 7 - 30, 2017
Opening Reception:
Thursday, September 7, 6 - 8pm

In his various collections, James Brown explores the world of perception and the truths we assume from our sensory experiences. His work deals largely with the first impressions of certain experiences, be they emotions, contacts or physical activities, and the ways in which they are interpreted through the senses, suggesting an overarching theory of interconnectedness. Brown is left to paint only the lowest common denominator of raw information given to us by our impressions. He believes that such a process can, as he says, “capture intrinsic patterns, forms, and colors that are the building blocks of existence, whether physical or intangible, transient or eternal, to help better understand the world around me.”

James Brown attended the American High School of Madrid in Spain, and in 1996 received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from Virginia Tech. His work has been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout the Pacific Northwest, and sold in auctions for the Henry Art Gallery, the Virginia Tech College of Architecture, and the Museum of Northwest Art. Brown’s work is also held in various public and private collections.
